Wednesday saw the release of two new films - Pineapple Express and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.
Pineapple Express is the latest stoner comedy from producer Judd Apatow and co-writer and star Seth Rogen, who worked together on Knocked Up and Superbad, and the 90s cult TV show, Freaks and Geeks. James Franco co-stars.
Early buzz for the film has been good, and this beat out The Dark Knight for the #1 spot on Wednesday, opening with just over $12 million in one day.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 is actually an adaptation of the fourth book in the popular young adult series. All four ’sisters’ return, including Ugly Betty America Ferrera, Gossip Girl Blake Lively, Gilmore Girl Alexis Bledel, and former Joan of Arcadia Amber Tamblyn.
Sisterhood opened with over $5 million on Wednesday, pushing The Dark Knight down to #3 and claiming the #2 spot. Will it continue that way throughout the weekend? Only time will tell.
Three other films opened this week, all in limited release - Hell Ride, Bottle Shock, and Elegy.
