Bangkok Dangerous, the Pang Brothers’ remake of their own 1999 Thai hit, is the only new wide release hitting theatres today, the official start of the fall box-office season.

The film was not screened for critics, and even the studio does not seem to have high expectations for it, reportedly cutting its marketing budget in half. Box-office forecasters are predicting that it will take in about $10 million in its debut, about what they’re predicting for the fourth week of Tropic Thunder, which has held the top-spot since its debut. The weekend after Labor Day is considered one of the slowest weekends of the year by studio executives — who plan accordingly.

Opening in limited release (96 theaters) is the movie Everybody Wants to Be Italian, which reviewers have been brutally panning, but I think looks cute.

Luckily this incredibly slow weekend will give us all a chance to catch up on films we’ve missed. Babylon AD anyone?
