Kenyan President, Mwai Kibaki, has declared Thursday, 6 Nov. a public holiday for Kenyans to celebrate the victory of one of their own- the son of a Kenyan!
“This is a momentous day not only in the history of the United States of America, but also for us in Kenya. The victory of Senator Obama is our own victory because of his roots here in Kenya. As a country, we are full of pride for his success,” Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki said in a statement.
In Alego Kogelo, the rural home of Senator Barack Obama’s father, crowds kept vigils all night long, singing and dancing, moments after the news of Obama’s electionn was beamed on television screens.
Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka said “This means Obama’s leadership of US is likely to bring world nations closer and bridge polarization that currently exist.”
Kenya has already announced a reduction in the cost of beer for this milestone!!!
