Finally! The ball is rolling on this Aaliyah movie. Canadian-born R&B singer La Keisha Chante is going to play La Aaliyah in a biopic of the talented R&B singer. Capricorn Aaliyah would have been 30 jeers old in 2 weeks =) She died at 22, so sad.
The movie is scheduled for release next jeer. Chante has no experience as an actress whatsoever! Pero she kinda looks, sings, dances like Aaliyah. Kinda, Aaliyah is better. What joo guys think about the casting. Sheck out Keisha in a music bideo here!

She does look lyke her, and she seems sweet… it should be good
She definitely doesn’t sound like her, so they’re going to need to train her voice better and there are physical similarities but not enuff.
Her dancin and her presence in general is closer to the of christina milian or ciara…they’re all very talented…but still a world away from bein anything like Aaliyah.
I honestly wouldn’t have ever though to suggest her for the role (MAYBE a young Aaliyah…MAYBE…but even thats pushin it)…however, I’m lookin forward to see how she does and I wish her the best of luck.
I think she is pretty but there will always b one Aaliyah… If she can pull it off, then great for her but I think this chic will get a lot of criticism. Aaliyah’s voice ws stronger, this girl; I’ve never heard of and just watched the video and now I know why I’ve never heard of her. The dancing and singing was very amateur.
I think with a little work she can be a good Aaliyah. Remember people, she isn’t trying to replace Aaliyah, she is just acting as Aaliyah. Don’t be too critical. The guy who was picked to play Biggie in the Notorious used his similaritites to pull off the Biggie character… He is not coming out with an album as Big. Neither is Keisha “TRYING” to take Aaliyah’s place. When she gets with Fatima (Aaliyah’s Choreographer) I am sure she would learn how to duplicate Aaliyah’s moves. They weren’t that complicated. But if she gets that signature belly roll, she would definitely have it locked. I think Ciara would have been a better Aaliyah because of their voices and dance moves. Just my personal opinion, but Keisha definitly looks the closest than any of the other hopefuls.
To my opinion she does have similar features of Aaliyah. However her voice is unique but it’s not EVEN close to Aaliyah’s voice. her dance moves is nothing close to Aaliyah’s anyways. But good luck to her,trying her best!! Of course noone’s ever going to look exactly like Aaliyah nor sing. God gives gifts to some, and all their voices are unique and different,except for the one’s who sings through their noises sounding like ppigs,lolsz!! but yeah; love u Aaliyah and ur the most beatiful girl i ever seen,hey ur brother he’s cute,lolsz!!!
She shares a strong resemblence to her all over. She can be taught to dance like her and her singing voice shouldn’t matter cuz hopefully they will be using all of Aaliyah’s vocals thruout the film, they would have to. Especially if it is being compared to what J.Lo did for the Selena role. If any of u have seen that movie u know that J.Lo never used her voice when it came to the songs (obvious reasons, she can’t sing) but more importantly the moive was about Selena so how could u not use her vocally. Im sure Keisha will have no “real” singing parts, it will b all Aaliyah’s voice.
I agree with StarrStatus, They will have to use Aaliyah’s singing voice throughout the movie b/c that’s the only way Aaliyah can be physically apart of the movie. When J-Lo did Selena all u saw was Selena, when Gravy did Notorious all u saw was Notorious B.I.G. so I’m pretty sure Keshia is gonna do Aaliyah justice and they already started filming so we will have to wait and see what happens. I have faith in Keshia Chante and I KNOW she will do a SPECTACULAR job in the Biopic :).
Keshia has a striking resemblance to Aaliyah. She doesn’t look exactly like her, but people can’t deny that they favor each other. And y’all don’t see that same spirit in the two of them? Keshia has that same swag that Aaliyah had, but has her own take on it. Where people try to be like her, Keshia is just being herself. It just happens to remind me of Aaliyah. I think she will do an amazing job.
She resembles her, but as far as dance moves, hers are a little too hard. Aaliyah’s were more smoother and quaint, with less effort to make, but sassy at the same time. And her vocals, like someone mentioned previously most likely will be lipsynced to her music. But all in all, I think she will live up to the expectation because she knows that a lot of people will be watching her, making sure that she portrays Aaliyah in the correct image. Ok…not to shut her down or take away from her obvious talent or her looks but…
“strong resemblance” - Seriously? Yea she’s a pretty girl but lets not go over board…I’ve watched every video & interview I could find with Keshia and she’s not on Aaliyah’s level. And Dubdiel, I’m sorry but the swag is apples and oranges…the two simply CANNOT be compared. I will always support young artists doing their thing and like I said Keshia is very talented, just on a very different level than Aaliyah was. Bottom line SOME THINGS JUST CAN’T BE THOUGHT.
A few people mentioned Selena and Biggie…now imagine what would’ve happened to Jennifer Lopez’s career if she messed up that role…same thing here - Aaliyah was/is to R&B and the urban world, what Selena was/is to Tejano music & the latin community…I just hope and pray that Akimnio is right and that Keshia realizes the importance of the role she’s taken and is approaching this with complete seriousness.
With the magic of Hollywood I’m sure the movie will turn out fine…but please folks, take it easy with the hyperbole; throwing around words like “great” and “amazing” etc. You should always give credit where its due but honestly, none of us know yet that it is actually due…ALL THE BEST TO KESHIA AND BEST OF LUCK…MY PRAYERS ARE WITH HER….but lets chill on the praise for now and let the girl prove herself first, shall we!?

I believe she would play a good Aaliyah with alot of practice and stuff but like every1 else said there is only 1 true Aaliyah and she’s no lnger with us R.I.P Baby Girl you will truly be missed. But I lve Aaliyah I am a huge fans of hers so when this movie cmes out I will definently go see it. Does any1 knw when it will be out? I think they casted the right girl, way before I heard there was gonna be a movie I though keisha would be some one who could play aaliyah, because she has similar features and if you have seen her 2u video you would know what I mean if you haven’t check it out. Also I watch a video of her during a photo shoot and her mannerism is very similar too how aaliyah use to joke around & every thing. she also a performer so she will know how to work a stage when it comes to shooting the performance parts only thing is I don’t know how good a actress she is but this would be a big role for her so I’m hoping she will put her all into it, hopefully show the word what us the fans already knew about aaaliyah & her music.
