Rumors are afloat that George Clooney will be shooting scenes this week for an upcoming episode of ER, which is in its 15th and final season on NBC.

This is not particulary new news - it’s been hinted at by costar Noah Wyle, the producers pretty much came out and said that a cast of thousands would be returning, and even Goran Visnjic, one of the stars, said to expect a lot of familiar faces in the finale.

The network also recently ordered up an additional three episodes of its Thursday night staple, raising hopes that nabbing Clooney for a guest spot was one of the reasons for the brief extension.

The Oscar winner last appeared on ER for an uncredited minute long cameo in 2000, a year after taking off to make movies full-time. This helped tie up the storyline for Julianna Margulies‘ departing character, Nurse Carol Hathaway, who had twin daughters with Clooney’s Dr. Doug Ross.

According to Life & Style, Clooney and Margulies will reunite as “part of an effort to wrap up all of the original characters’ story lines” and that their episode will air toward the end of February, during sweeps. This is following news that Margulies won’t return.

The ER series finale airs April 2 on NBC. We can only wait and see who’ll be there.
